Recycling Polythene
One of the most remarkable characteristics of polythene is that it is completely recyclable and can be recycled again and again and again
All of our polythene mailing bags including sugarcane and protective films are made from Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), a recyclable material identified by recycling code 4.
How to recycle polythene mailing bags/LDPE in the UK
Polythene and sugarcane mailing bags can be easily recycled, just tear or cut off any sticky paper labels first, then take them to any plastic carrier bag recycling point. Unfortunately they aren’t currently collected with kerbside recycling.
- Supermarket collection points
Many UK supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Co-op, accept LDPE soft plastics such as carrier bags, polythene packaging, and film at dedicated recycling points. - Local recycling centres
Some council Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) accept LDPE films. Check your local council’s recycling guide for details. - Commercial recycling solutions
For businesses that use larger volumes of our packaging, specialist commercial recycling providers can collect and process LDPE, turning it into new products such as refuse sacks, agricultural sheeting, and new packaging.
How Bayard Packaging supports sustainability
- We design our packaging to be recyclable wherever possible
- We encourage customers to return or recycle LDPE responsibly
- We ensure our products are manufactured in the UK, reducing transport emissions and supporting local recycling infrastructure
